Lithophane 1870s Window Shade Bronze Gilt Made in Germany-Meant to be propped into a window so you could see the details of the image, The image is a famous 19th c painting that has since been lost. Created by the famous porcelain company KPM-Miessen among others. The artist would sculpt a relief of the image in soft wax from which the mast mold would be taken. The finest white porcelain would be pushed into the mold and fired until it was as hard as the finest glass.

As far as collectors quality it is a an object of curiosity. They are very interesting and very neat. Something made to impress and arouse curiosity over 130 years ago still does in our age of cell phones and computers. Measurements are 19 tall 9 1/2 wide
